Thank you to everyone who participated in the democratic process by voting in this past Monday’s municipal election. I am humbled by the number of people who voted for me and in support of my vision for Oakville. And I am in awe of my amazing team of dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to put up signs, canvassed door-to-door, dropped literature, and made sure that our message made it to every corner of the community.
While the election result was not what we had hoped for, we accomplished so much.
I’m proud that we have discussed truths, during this campaign, that many in this community didn’t want people to hear:
- Your taxes have increased for 12 years straight.
- 1 in 8 children in Oakville live in poverty
- We have serious ethical and integrity issues.
I hope our new council will champion these issues on behalf of the residents and businesses in Oakville.
Oakville is an incredible place to live and with the citizen engagement that we saw during this election working for the betterment of our town, it will continue to be.
